The foot analysis becomes an experience

Modern technologies in foot pressure measurement can optimize the quality of the individual insole supply in many ways. The pressure plate analysis is a very useful instrument for a quick and time saving analysis of pressure values Foot pressure measurement determines the plantar force distribution to identify where the feet generate the highest pressure. Depending on the distribution of the pressure zones and the alignment of the foot skeleton, causes of various complaints can be ascertained, visualized and treated.

Pressure measuring plates consist of thousands of sensors which record and analyze the gait in two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphical representations in order to detect anatomical imbalances and anomalies.

How does the procedure work?

Pressure plate analysis is a very simple procedure that only takes a few minutes. The pressure plate is connected to a computer and the pressure distribution is displayed on screen once the patient is standing or walking over the plate. The sensors in the plate record the pressure and then display the information in various graphical forms. The analysis is accurate because the plate only works with a barefoot measurement and therefore does not allow a supply evaluation. The measurement shows a precise distribution of the body pressure on the feet, as well as the patient’s center of gravity. It also provides a comparison of the pressure distribution between the two feet.

What are the advantages of this method?

The pressure plate analysis offers an exact and reproducible recording of plantar pressure ratio. A static as well as a dynamic pressure measurement of the gear are possible:

  • Static pressure measurement: The balance is measured and evaluated during the standing analysis. Various evaluation options also allow pressure, maximum pressure or average pressure to be analyzed. The pressure values are displayed in color from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure), which makes pressure peaks and foot misalignments easily recognizable.

  • Dynamic pressure measurement: The analysis in action records several step sequences to display the gait as well as the force of the movement. Through this the rolling behavior of the foot from the heel upwards is analyzed, whereby the outside and inside rolling edge as well as sensorimotor uncertainties are recognized. A colored display also facilitates the evaluation of the maximum load on the foot when walking, the maximum pressure progress and the analyses of the gait lines and stepping phases.

Measurement procedure

The examination process is very fast and takes less than 20 minutes. The foot pressure measurement takes only four steps:

  1. Anamnesis: Grasp information from the patient
  2. Walk: Patient has to walk barefoot three to five steps
  3. Repeat:  Perform several measurement runs for comparison
  4. Demonstrate: Show patients the motion sequence

Overview of benefits

The pressure plate analysis qualifies orthopedic technicians and medical supply stores to produce high-quality insoles. Through this fast and accurate measurement results the employees are relieved of their workload and can spend more time for optimal patient care.
